    Season 3 - Episode Guide

Season Three marks Jackson’s last year with the show and the return for three episodes of Charlie’s most celebrated Angel, Farrah Fawcett, reprising the role of Jill Munroe that made her a pop icon. Cheryl Ladd had already been in the show for one very successful; year and proved her worth to the series and by the Third Season was totally accepted as a part of the Angel’s team. The Third Season of Charlie's Angels starts with the two-part episode Angels in Vegas featuring guest stars Dean Martin, Dick Sargent, and Robert Urich as the girls blend in backstage to solve a murder. Other episodes have the Angels going undercover as cheerleaders, as teachers at a girls’ boarding school, as runners in a marathon, in a disco and outwitting the look-alike “Counterfeit Angels,” ending with a retrospective episode celebrating their years together as a team. The Third season also offered up a good number of special guest stars, some of which wouldn’t make their mark until later in their careers like Jamie Lee Curtis. Other guests include Stephen Collins, Mercedes McCambridge, Marie Windsor, Anne Francis, Janis Paige, Lloyd Bochner, Gary Collins and Billy Barty.

49. Angels in Vegas (part 1) (Sep. 13, 1978)
After showgirl Mary Phillips becomes the second employee of the Tropicana Hotel and Casino to perish in a deadly auto accident, Tropicana owner Frank Howell hires the Angels to establish a motive for the killings. Kelly joins the hotel's show as a dancer, while Kris is hired as the new backup singer for lounge star Marty Cole. The 1978 season premiere of Charlie's Angels has the Angels actually going on location to Las Vegas. They "went to Vegas" in Episode 17, "The Vegas Connection" but only by the magic of stock footage. This was originally aired as a two-hour episode.  This is Dick Sergeant's 2nd of 5 appearances. His first appearance was in "Angels on Wheels." Sergeant was well known as the second Darren Stevens on Bewitched.

Guest Cast: Dean Martin (Frank Howell), Dick Sargent (Marty Cole), Vic Morrow (Mark Haines), Lee Travis (Joan Wells), Lionel Decker (Jarvis), Eddie Lo Russo (Gus), Patti Pivaar (Daphne), Ron Rondell (Case), Gary Brockette (Dean Williams), Sid Conrad (Dr. Hinton), Rita Alexander (Mary Phillips), Scatman Crothers (Jip Baker), James Hong (Professor Perkins), Herb Edelman (Joey January), Michael Conrad (Ed Slocum)

51. Angel Come Home (Sep. 20, 1978)
Jill Munroe receives an urgent cablegram summoning her home, only to discover it was a ruse to flush out Formula One car designer Paul Ferrino. To protect his new turbo-charged racer from saboteurs, Ferrino asks Jill to drive it in the Grand Prix, hoping that a victory will bring needed research funds. The Angels begin some high-gear sleuthing when a mysterious car explosion kills Jill's fiancé and she becomes the next target.  One of the highlight episodes of the third season with actually four angels in action. Farrah Fawcett justified her decision to leave Charlie's Angels in 1977 on a technicality: she was under no obligation to continue with the series beyond the first season because she never signed her contract.
After Aaron Spelling took the matter to court in 1978, a judge ruled that because Fawcett was paid, $5000 per episode, the contract was implied and therefore enforceable. Fawcett settled out of court; as part of the compromise, she agreed to appear in six episodes of Angels over two seasons This is Farrah Fawcett's first guest starring appearance as Jill Munroe in her contractually-obligated returns. The majority of her scenes are interactions between Jill and younger sister, Kris.

Guest Cast: Farrah Fawcett (Jill Munroe), Stephen Collins (Steve Carmody), Sir Jackie Stewart (Himself), Bill Vint (Danny Bligh), Dolly Martin (Andrea Lassiter), Horst Buchholz (Paul Ferrino), Martin Azarow (George Danforth)
Writer: Stephen Kandel

Believing himself to be the father of the young man named Bill Freeman, a handsome but by no means wealthy stunt flyer, he engages the Angels to find the apparent heir to his fortune. A visit to the address in a rural community where the woman lived brings the Angels to a stripped and abandoned house with someone else prowling around, someone who is almost immediately murdered. The killer escapes unseen but the trace of the dead man's driver's license identifies his employer as a New York corporation with underworld ties. Sabrina heads for the Big Apple to follow up the lead but soon finds that the closer she gets to the truth, the more somebody wants her dead. The Townsend Agency is remodeled beginning with this episode. Look closely and you'll notice the new color of carpeting, walls, curtains, bar canopy, bar stools and shelving behind the bar.

Guest Cast: Michael Goodwin (Bill Freeman), Gloria Manners (Joan Freeman), Ben Young (Markle), Bill Zuckert (Jake), Annalee Jefferies (Clerk), Billie Perkins (Waitress),  Bert Freed (Stambler), Don Reid (Harmon), Johnny Seven (Fenton),  Lee Terri (Evelyn Wales), Ben Hammer (George Faylon)

53. Angels in Springtime (Oct. 11, 1978)
A grande dame of Broadway is "accidentally" electrocuted in a hydro massage tank at the elite Springtime Spa. Foul play is suspected when both the aging actress' memoirs and the last person to see her alive mysteriously disappear. The Angels must exercise extreme caution while investigating murder. At the spa, it's hard to say which staff member is most ominous. Posing as employees, Kris and Sabrina are greeted with cold disapproval by the managing director, Ms. Ingrid. Zora, the physical therapist, threatens to break Kris' neck when she is found nosing about the equipment room. Kelly, posing as a rich guest, finds the doctor who dabbles in hypnotism imperious and aggressive. When Zora sees Sabrina rummaging through Ms. Ingrid's office, she tries to prevent further sleuthing by locking Kris in a sauna with the steam turned on full blast. The Angels discover a visit to the Springtime Spa can be hazardous to their health. Guest star Nancy Parsons would later on become well known for her portrayal of Beulah Balbricker in Porky's, Porky's II - The Next Day & Porky's Revenge.

54. Winning is For Losers (Oct. 18, 1978)
Somebody doesn’t want LPGA pro Linda Frye (Halloween star Jamie Lee Curtis) to win the Cypress Springs Invitational, and Charlie’s Angels have 24 hours to find out who and why in “Winning is For Losers”. Other guest stars include Edward Albert (Kate Jackson’s boyfriend for a time during Angels) and nationally syndicated radio personality Casey Kasem. This episode features one of the wackiest moments in Angels history: the sequence in which Kris goes mano a mano with a bunch of alligators! “People joke about the alligator episode all the time, but what they don’t know is that those alligators weren’t all that real”, says Cheryl Ladd. “How’s that for method acting ….?” What’s no joke is that Ladd is an expert golfer in real life. Though she doesn’t get a chance to demonstrate her prowess in this episode, Ladd participates in various pro-am tournaments to help raise money for charity, including her own Cheryl Ladd Pro AM.

Guest Cast: Jamie Lee Curtis (Linda Frye), Rita Gomez (Chambermaid), Buck Young (Bartender),  Gary Bisig (Bill Montclair), Casey Kasem (Tom Rogers), Ray Wise (Evan Wilcox), George Pentecost (George Ritlin), E.J. Peaker (Donna Dawson)
Writer: Ray Brenner
Director: Cliff Bole

55. Haunted Angels (Oct. 25, 1978)
Sabrina plays a clairvoyant and Kris goes undercover as a grad student from Olmsted College in Ohio in parapsychology, in an attempt to outwit phony psychic researcher Douglas Holden, who the Angels believe is swindling Claire Rossmore, a friend of Bosley's, out of her money. Holden claims to be able to contact Mrs. Rossmore's nephew, who died in a tragic motorcycle accident, through a young woman psychic. When the young woman turns up dead, the Angels are more convinced that Holden had her killed to cover up his scheme. Lee Sheldon's script is very clever with twists and turns. The scene where Sabrina and Kris convince Holden of Sabrina's psychic powers using tricky methods is the best scene of the episode.

Guest Cast: Lenore Woodward (Mrs. Brendleberry), Linden Chiles (Dr. Holden), Peter Donat (Peter Russell), Gretchen Wyler (Claire Rossmore), Katherine Charles (Barbara Niles), Joseph Hacker (Eric Knight), Roger Bowen (Reverend Green), Jeanne Lange (Kathy Wade)
Writer: Lee Sheldon
Director: Ronald Austin

56. Pom Pom Angels  (Nov. 1, 1978)
The Angels temporarily trade their guns for pom poms when they go undercover as football cheerleaders after three of the lovely ladies, called the Bow Wows, receive threatening notes with religious overtones and then disappear. Meanwhile, the three missing women are being held captive by a scripture spouting publicity man who calls himself The Good One and believes he must cleanse them of their sins. Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd just look awesome in their undercover costumes but this isnt enough to save the episode. The script is a bit dull and as Ed Lakso said "That episode was one of the real disasters".

Guest Cast: Cis Rundle (Ellen), Joan Vigman (Waitress), Sandy Ward (Dan Abner), Lonny Chapman (Eddie Cobb), B.J. Bartlett (Sam Braham), Rick Casorla (Tim Asher), Ben Davidson (Tasker), Fran Ryan (Belle Asher), Anne Francis (Margo), Stephanie Blackmore (Beverly Casey)

The killer monitors the Angels' hunt with something more sinister than Kris' rescue in mind. When Kelly drops her guard, it is just the opportunity the clever killer needs. Kelly's houseguest, Sally, decides to stay in a hotel until the scandal has blown over but ends up in the center of it. Kelly has moved to a different house from where she lived in during the first season shown in "Target: Angels" and "The Séance." Her house number was 326 and it is now 10426.
