Charlie's Angels Voice John Forsythe dies at 92

John Forsythe passed away after his long battle with cancer.

"Hello, Angels": Actor John Forsythe provided the voice of "Charlie" for the both the long-running TV program and the films of 'Charlie's Angels.'

John Forsythe, the debonair actor whose matinee-idol looks, confident charm and mellifluous voice helped make him the star of three hit television series, including ABC’s glamour soap “Dynasty,” died on Thursday, April 1, 2010, at his home in Santa Ynez, Calif. He was 92.

Mr. Forsythe may be best remembered as Blake Carrington, the dapper, silver-haired but ruthless Denver oil tycoon on “Dynasty,” which ran from 1981 to 1989 and took its place as a symbol of the affluent decade of the Reagan administration. He often expressed amusement that the role, as the object of two women’s fierce affection — that of Joan Collins and Linda Evans — had made him a sex symbol in his 60s.

Between those two series, Mr. Forsythe played a crucial role in “Charlie’s Angels” (1976-81), the hit show about three young, attractive female detectives, originally played by Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith and Farrah Fawcett. Mr. Forsythe’s part was as the sexy telephone voice of their boss, a millionaire private eye who had others handle his

Angel Statements

“I’m mourning with the rest of the world for the talented, gorgeous, funny, intelligent John Forsythe but my heart is broken for the loss of my dear, dear friend and neighbor. I will miss him terribly. My husband and I send our warmest and deepest regards to his family and our cherished friend, his wife Nicole.” –  Forsythe’s former “Charlie’s Angels” co-star Cheryl Ladd

“I made an effort never to see him when he came in to [record] his voiceover, but I left messages for him. And he would leave me a note saying, ‘Hi Sabrina, it’s Charlie. You’ll never catch me!’” –  Former “Charlie’s Angels” star Kate Jackson tells People magazine

His Charlie's Angels costar Kate Jackson told PEOPLE that she used to leave notes around the set for Forsythe. "I made an effort never to see him when he came in to [record] his voiceover, but I left messages for him," she said. "And he would leave me a note saying, 'Hi Sabrina, it's Charlie. You'll never catch me!'" After quitting the popular TV show, Jackson said she saw Forsythe often. "He had a grace about him that was incredibly awesome," she said. "John had a great sense of humor, and he was wonderful."

Jaclyn Smith to Guest on 'Law & Order: SVU'

Jaclyn Smith was great in  her guest appearance on the NBC series Law & Order: SVU.

For 'Law & Order: SVU,' the plot line from the TV Guide write-up is as basic as can be. Jaclyn will be playing a former cop who gets involved with Stabler and Benson. That's all the information we've heard thus far, but you can assume something in the show will be ripped from the headlines that will dovetail into Jaclyn's story.

Maybe she can be someone who was once Olivia's mentor, someone Liv worked with when she was just a rookie with the New York police department. That would offer some good character development especially considering Olivia's scarred history that resulted in her getting into the Special Victims Unit.

The episode is set to air on March 31st.

Happy Birthday Angels

This month two of our beloved Angels are sharing their Birthday's Jaclyn Smith (Oct. 26) and Kate Jackson (Oct. 29).
Happy Birthday Angels... May all your wishes and dreams come true!!!! We LOVE you Angels.

ABC closing in on 'Charlie's Angels'

ABC is close to giving a pilot order to a modern version of  "Charlie’s Angels." Josh Friedman, who recently adapted the "Terminator" franchise for his Fox series "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles," is onboard to write and exec produce the new "Angels."

Also involved are original "Charlie’s Angels" producer Leonard Goldberg, who launched the series with Aaron Spelling in 1976, as well as Drew Barrymore, who starred in and produced the 2000 film version and its sequel. Sony Pictures TV is the studio Insiders said that ABC Entertainment Group topper Steve McPherson is particularly high on this project.

Networks of late have found that it’s frequently a challenge to take on iconic franchises — and several recent reboots, such as this fall's "Melrose Place," have fallen short. But ABC is riding high this fall with its adaptation of another such property, "V," which bowed to boffo numbers. And insiders note that most of those other properties had laid dormant for some time, while "Charlie's Angeles" was just recently a strong movie franchise. Plus, there's the part where "Charlie's Angels" will make some noise by finding three new ass-kicking female stars.

Sony is also busy adapting another 1970s Spelling (and Goldberg-produced) property, "Fantasy Island" — but as a reality show, along with Mark Burnett. No U.S. network is attached as of yet to that project, which was announced last month at the Mipcom TV confab.

The original "Charlie’s Angels" ran from 1976-81 and was back in the news this summer following the death of original star Farrah Fawcett. Spelling attempted a revival in 1988, sealing a deal to produce a version called "Angels 88" for Fox. That show never got off the ground, but it eventually led to Spelling’s deal to produce the original "Beverly Hills 90210" (now also enjoying a revival, via the CW).

The franchise then lay dormant until 2000, when the McG-helmed "Charlie’s Angels" feature, starring Barrymore, Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz, was a box office hit. Movie spawned a second edition, "Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle."

It also led to an earlier attempt at a TV series revival, in 2004. That version was written for ABC (again, through Sony) by a pre-"Lost" Carlton Cuse and John Wirth and given a script-plus-penalty order but ultimately didn’t go to pilot.

This time around, a pilot is expected to be greenlit. Friedman, Goldberg and Barrymore will exec produce with Nancy Juvonen. Friedman’s other credits include co-writing the features "War of the Worlds" and "The Black Dahlia." The new "Charlie’s Angels" is expected to be geared toward a new generation while paying homage to the past.

Farrah Fawcett Rest In Peace

Farrah Fawcett, our beloved Charlie's Angel with the feathered blond hair and the dazzling smile, died on Thursday after battling cancer. She was 62. Farrah died shortly before 9:30 a.m. in a Santa Monica hospital, spokesman Paul Bloch said. Ryan O'Neal, the longtime companion who had reunited with Fawcett as she fought anal cancer, was at her side, along with close friend Alana Stewart, Bloch said. "After a long and brave battle with cancer, our beloved Farrah has passed away," O'Neal said. "Although this is an extremely difficult time for her family and friends, we take comfort in the beautiful times that we shared with Farrah over the years and the knowledge that her life brought joy to so many people around the world." Farrah Fawcett was buried in a private ceremony which took place at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels in LA on Wednesday, July 1,

In a cathedral that was filled with yellow, white and peach flowers, and in a service that included a rendition of "Amazing Grace" and bagpipes, Farrah's longtime love Ryan O'Neal and their son Redmond O'Neal read bible passages to say goodbye. Redmond, who was allowed to leave jail for his mother's funeral, gave the first reading at the funeral, followed by a reading from his father, who said that his son did a beautiful job. Many mourners expressed their love and support for Redmond.

Family members were joined at the funeral by celeb friends, including Farrah's former Charlie's Angels co-stars Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith. Also seen arriving were novelist Jackie Collins, Dynasty star Joan Collins and Alana Stewart, close friend and producer of the documentary that followed Farrah's cancer battle.

"Farrah had courage, she had strength, and she had faith. And now she has peace as she rests with the real angels," said Jaclyn Smith after the death of her friend and Charlie's Angels costar Farrah Fawcett.

Cheryl Ladd, who replaced Fawcett on the wildly popular '70s show, says: "I'm terribly sad about Farrah's passing. She was incredibly brave, and God will be welcoming her with open arms."

"I will miss Farrah every day," says Kate Jackson. "She was a selfless person who loved her family and friends with all her heart, and what a big heart it was. Farrah showed immense courage and grace throughout her illness and was an inspiration to those around her. When I think of Farrah I will remember her kindness, her cutting dry wit and, of course, her beautiful smile." Added Jackson, "Today when you think of Farrah remember her smiling, because that is exactly how she wanted to be remembered."

Charlie's Angels long-Awaited Season 4 is Finally Coming to DVD

Click here to pre-order "Charlie's Angels - The Complete 4th Season" DVD Box Set from Amazon.ComThis coming 4th-of-July marks the third anniversary since fans of Charlie's Angels first saw the third season set of the show released on DVD.

At last, it now appears that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is finally moving forward with Charlie's Angels - The Complete 4th Season, which saw the introduction of Shelley Hack as "fifth angel" Tiffany Welles (a graduate of Boston's police academy), and the final appearances of Farrah Fawcett as "original angel" Jill Munroe. Except for Farrah (credited as "Farrah Fawcett-Majors" at the time, since she was still married to Lee Majors) appearing in the episodes "Fallen Angel," "The Prince and the Angel" and "An Angel's Trail", the makeup of the team this year consisted of Kelly (Jaclyn Smith), Kris (Cheryl Ladd) and Tiffany.

VideoETA, a website produced by home video distributor Ingram Entertainment, has revealed that Charlie's Angels - The Complete 4th Season is coming out from Sony on July 21st. This will be a 6-disc set costing $39.95 SRP, according to their information. The fan site CharliesAngels.com also agrees with that release date (our thanks to the various readers of that website who took the time to e-mail us over the weekend). Sony's announcement date for this title is apparently next Monday (5/11), according to our sources, but if word about further details leaks out prior to then, we'll certainly update you immediately. Stay tuned for that, and package art.

This 1979-80 run of episodes began with a double-length season premiere which crossed over with fellow ABC series The Love Boat (both programs were produced by Aaron Spelling). Just days before the other show had it's own third-season debut, the Angels took an assignment from Charlie aboard the Pacific Princess. Note that "Love Boat Angels" should not be confused with the first-season episode "Angels at Sea"!

Counting the season premiere as a single (albeit extra-long) story, that means there would be 25 episodes in Charlie's Angels - The Complete 4th Season. They included such guest stars as Dick Sargent, Judy Landers, Bert Convy, Gavin MacLeod, Bernie Kopell, Fred Grandy, Ted Lange, Lauren Tewes, Royce D. Applegate, Mickey Jones, Kim Cattrall, Timothy Dalton, Louise Sorel, Sally Kirkland, Ed Begley Jr., Rene Auberjonois, Gary Collins, Nita Talbot, Simon Oakland, Marc Alaimo, James Gleason, Cesar Romero, Robert Englund, Louis Jourdan, Tab Hunter, Barbara Stanwyck, Robert Loggia, Tricia O'Neil, and a two-part season finale with Patrick Duffy, Ray Milland, Harry Townes and Robert Reed.
