Julie Rogers was played by
Tanya Roberts in the 5th and final season of Charlie's
Angels (1980-1981). Julie was Charlie's 6th angel,
taking over Tiffany's job and company car, the orange
Ford Pinto. Undoubtedly due to her late entry into the
angelhood, not much is known about the
mysterious Julie Rogers. She was the Angel with
the darkest and most turbulent history. She
actually entered the series as a suspect in a
case Kelly and Kris were working on
in the opener episode "Angel
in Hiding."
After proving herself innocent, she was
recruited by Charlie to replace Angel Tiffany Welles
(Shelley Hack) even though she had no experience or
police training.
Charlie decided that having graduated from a top
modeling school qualified her for a job as a detective,
and hired her on. By contrast
with the elegant and almost aristocratic Tiffany, Julie
was a gritty, no-frills kind of gal with a very dynamic
personality. Which isn't
surprising, given that she was raised by an alcoholic
mother and once wound up in jail for petty theft.
She managed to
leave all that behind her by starting afresh as a model,
and - on becoming an Angel - proved one of Charlie's
best ever agents.

She owns an apartment in Marina Del Rey.
Much like Kris's early
episodes, Julie is shown as naive and inexperienced, and
of course, lacks the technical knowledge of the other
Angels. But the other staff take a protective and
encouraging attitude with Julie. She does get to show
off some rather impressive fight skills in the episode
"Attack Angels."

|
|
Julie also has special affinity with a runaway teenager
in one episode, showing some attempts at deeper
characterization. Upon the return of the Townsend Agency
from Hawaii, the formerly hardened and streetwise Julie
became somewhat dull, fading into the declining scripts
of the final season.
 |
Past:
Julie is a world traveler,. She was born and
grew up in the streets of New York City. She never met
her father and her mother was an alchoholic and died a
few years later. She also spent 6 months in prison for
shoplifting and later on graduated from a top modeling
school.
Julie had previously had trouble with the law for
various misdemeanors and had even served time. She was
working with her probation officer, Harry Stearns (who
had become a father figure to her), as an informant,
when she met the Angels in Hawaii.
|
As a model,
Julie was helping investigate a modeling agency; when
the probation officer was killed, Kris and Kelly
convinced her to assist their formal investigation.
Julie helped clinch
the case, and Agency owner Charlie decided to hire her
on, assisting her in acquiring a "temporary Private
Investigator's" license while she was to study for the
actual license. (We never learn if she gets her
credentials). She also worked as an assistant to a private eye
Harry Stearns.
Fashion:
Bikinis, bikinis and bikinis... Julie looks just
sensational in everything she wears.
|
 |
Car:
Along with her place as an Angel, Julie inherited
Tiffany's trusty orange Ford Pinto with license plate
number CALIFORNIA 127-UBO. When the Townsend
Agency moved in Hawaii in Season 5 she owned a yellow Ford Jeep. |
|
Covers and
Techniques:
Julie is an
expert in martial arts and in scuba diving.
Some of her covers included
a photographer, waitress, lifeguard, model and a go-go dancer. Julie looks breathtaking in a bikini which is
her top technique.
 |
Why did
she leave: The Townsend Agency folded.
